Collection Description Display

Purple sand pottery is produced in the hills near Dingshu Town, Yixing City. There are mainly three kinds of purple mud, Zhu mud and Benshan green mud. In the firing process, the surface is not glazed, and the natural clay color is its characteristic. Purple sand pottery can be made into pottery pots, pottery bottles, pottery basins and sculptures, among which the purple sand teapot is the representative. The production of purple clay pots has a long history and is the soul treasure of Chinese traditional cultural heritage. It not only has good practicability, but also has unique artistry in history due to the participation of literati and mohists, which makes purple sand pottery give more cultural flavor.

Purple sand pots in the Qing Dynasty were usually made of sliced clay, which was then inlaid with sliced clay. Therefore, the bottoms of purple sand pots were uniform in thickness and fine in manufacture, and the bottoms of the pots had many radial marks. Others still insist on hand-kneading, such as Chen Mingyuan, Yang Pengnian and others. The pots they make have reached the realm of stewing in the oven, which is beyond the expectation of ordinary people. In the early Qing Dynasty, the spout was single-hole, but in the late Qing Dynasty it was porous. Before the mid-Qing Dynasty, the pots were all hand-made. By the end of the Qing Dynasty, the pots were moulded or rolled. Mr. Gu Jingzhou, a famous purple sand expert, once said that "shaping technique is one of the important bases for the identification of purple sand". Because each pot maker has different ways of making spouts and handles and has his own style. In modern times, grouting is used to make the pot body glossy with a little modification, while the sand in this period is as fine as paste, the inside and outside of the utensils are extremely regular, of course, the feel is excellent. This collection has high economic value and collection value.

This ollection is Mr. Lu's.
